About this Artwork

“Vantaggio Ferrari”, meaning “Advantage Ferrari,” features my first exploration into what an artist friend said was being “artistic“, not realistic or purely representational.

The subject is a driver (likely Fangio or Ascari) at Monza, driving a Ferrari. Both of these historic drivers attempted to compete in the Indianapolis 500 during years my father did. Only Ascari drove in the 500 (1952). Ascari is also mentioned in the historic novel, Beneath a Scarlett Sky, in which the future racecare driver teaches the main character of the book to drive and has a profound affect on the young man’s immediate future during WWII.
