The Foyt Collection
Most know Foyt from fan fare, lore, legend and television. Those who’ve known personally know he’s much more than the motorsport legend.
AJ’s father met Dad & Mom when AJ was 10 years old. AJ met me when I was about 4.
When I decided to try my hand at painting, it was natural that AJ’s 1977 Coyote was the first subject to come to mind.
This is the Foyt Collection.
Legend & Legacy
November 20, 2011, Tony Stewart secured his 3rd NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship, by winning the 2011 Ford 400 race he had to win at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The manner in which he won that race reminded me so much of the dirt racer he is. It also reminded me of the man he himself admires, emulates – AJ.
Tony’s car number that night was number 14, the number associated with his hero. Tony’s respect for Foyt is such that when Tony began his NASCAR Stewart Haas Racing team, he personally called AJ and asked if he could use that number.
The way Tony’s drove the wheels of his #14 Chevy, their connection, the sharing of the number 14, and AJ’s legend was the inspiration for

The 2016 Livery
By the time of the 2016 Indycar season, my motorsports art had surprised my in the way it reconnected me to the family of racing, the world I’d grown up in.
A big part of that was AJ. The redesigned Indycar Dallara DW12 lent itself to some astounding paint schemes. Some of those schemes, like the ABC Supply cars within the Foyt Racing livery, were just incredible on how they flow within the contours.
- No. 14 was driven by Takuma Sato;
- No. 41 by Jack Hawksworth;
- No. 35, ran only the 2016 Indianapolis Gran Prix and the 500, with Alex Tagliani driving. The significance of the number was in celebration of AJ’s record 35 consecutive Indy 500 starts. Its color scheme was that of AJ’s 1993 car the day he retired.
The originals were delivered to Larry and AJ at the Foyt Wine Vault (where Legend and Legacy hangs) the day after the running of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
